🥂 Truth or Dare Drinking Game
A truth or dare drinking game for couples and groups, in three levels. Every penalty has an alcohol-free version, so the whole game plays exactly the same dry.
How the drinking game works
Players sit in a circle with the phone in the middle. On your turn you pick truth or dare, answer or complete the card, and the turn passes to the left.
The drinking part is only the penalty. Refuse a card or stall past ten seconds and you take the penalty the group agreed on beforehand: a sip counts, and so does a sip of water, a spoon of hot sauce, ten push-ups, or a forfeit card. Refuse twice in a row and you draw two cards next round.
Penalty options
- A full glass of water, harder than it sounds after three rounds.
- Ten push-ups or a thirty-second plank for a table that would rather move than drink.
- A spoon of hot sauce or lemon juice for a penalty with a reaction.
- A forfeit card: you lose your next turn and the group picks your following card.
- A sip of whatever you are drinking, alcoholic or not, for players over the legal drinking age.
Playing as a couple or as a group
For two people, use a two-card rule: each of you answers a truth and completes a dare every round, and the penalty goes to whoever hesitates first. Couples get more out of the Wild level, because those cards are written to be asked of one person.
In a group of four or more, stay on Warm-Up for the first fifteen minutes, move to Party once the table is laughing, and open Wild only if everyone agrees. One person who is not comfortable is reason enough to stay on Party.
Drinking responsibly, or playing completely dry
Every card and penalty here can be done without a drink. There are no shot counts, no races, and no card telling anyone to finish a glass. If you are under the legal drinking age, driving, or simply not drinking, take the water, the push-ups, or the forfeit card and the game plays the same.
A dry table works well with a jug of water and one forfeit card per player. When a player runs out of cards, they answer the next truth whatever it is, which is penalty enough.
Truth or dare drinking game rules
- Agree the penalty list first, with at least two alcohol-free options.
- Turns move clockwise, one card each.
- Ten seconds to choose, then the group picks for you.
- Refusing costs a penalty; twice in a row costs a double card.
- Dares stay indoors, under a minute, and never involve driving or anything illegal.
- Anyone can stop at any point without explaining.
For variations, Truth or Dare drops penalties, Kings Cup hands out rules by card, Penalty Wheel spins your forfeit, and Never Have I Ever needs no dares.
Common questions
Do we need alcohol to play this?
No. The penalty is whatever your group chose, and water, push-ups, and forfeit cards all work.
How many players do you need?
Two is enough and eight is comfortable. Above eight, split into two circles, because waiting nine turns kills the pace.
What if someone refuses every card?
They take a penalty each time, and after three refusals most groups move them to Warm-Up. Forcing a card on someone ends the game faster than a bad card.
Is the Wild level explicit?
It is flirty and direct, not graphic. Nothing asks anyone to undress, and every card works in a living room with people watching.
