How the deck is put together

A classic tarot deck comes in two halves. The 22 cards of the Major Arcana deal with the big headlines of a life: beginnings, endings, tests, and things finally coming full circle. The 56 cards of the Minor Arcana cover ordinary days and split into four suits. Cups handle feelings and relationships, Swords cover thought, speech, and conflict, Wands carry drive and momentum, and Pentacles stand for work, money, and everything you can actually touch.

What a reversed card means

A reversed card is not automatically bad news. Most readers treat it as the same theme turned inward, delayed, or pushed too far. If the upright card is about courage, the reversed one might point to courage that got swallowed, or courage that tipped into recklessness. That is why a card makes more sense read alongside its neighbors and the question you actually asked.

Playing it as a couple

The best version is simple: you each pull a card and read the other person's meaning to them. Instead of asking what the card says about you, ask what came to mind while you were listening. A three-card past, present, and possible direction spread also gives relationship conversations a useful frame.
