❓ 20 Questions Game
Eighty prompt cards for 20 Questions. One person draws a card and keeps it secret; everyone else has twenty yes-or-no questions to figure it out.
How 20 Questions works
One player draws a card and reads it silently. That card is the category — a kitchen appliance, a movie from the eighties, an animal that lives underground — and the player picks one specific thing inside it and holds it in their head. Everyone else takes turns asking questions that can only be answered yes or no. Is it bigger than a microwave? Would you find it in most homes? Does it need electricity? After twenty questions, the group makes a guess.
Why the prompt cards help
The classic version breaks down the moment somebody freezes and picks something impossible, or something so vague that no question narrows it down. Giving the thinker a category solves both problems: they get an instant idea, and the guessers start with a foothold instead of a blank wall. It also keeps rounds short, which is what makes the game addictive.
Where to play it
This is the classic road trip game, but it works just as well at a dinner table, in a waiting room, or in a classroom. It needs no equipment and no scorekeeping — just a phone to draw from and people willing to think out loud. Two players is enough; ten is more fun.
