💣 Hot Potato
80 fast category cards for Hot Potato. Answer and pass before the timer runs out. Free, no sign-up.
How Hot Potato works
Draw a category card and start a timer that nobody can see — a phone alarm set to a random point between thirty and ninety seconds does the job. The first player says something that fits the category and passes the phone, the next player says a different one, and it goes around as fast as people can talk. Repeats do not count. Whoever is holding the phone when the timer goes off loses the round and takes a forfeit or a point against them.
Keep it moving
The whole game lives on speed. Two rules keep it there: no thinking out loud, and no passing back to the player who just handed it to you. If someone stalls for more than a couple of seconds, the group can count them down from three. It is much harder than it looks, because holding the object is what empties your head.
Different categories from the bomb game
These 80 cards are written to be quick and wide open — reptiles, hairstyles, things in a fridge, famous landmarks — and they deliberately do not repeat the categories in our bomb game, so you can play both in the same evening without hearing the same card twice.
Free, browser-based, no account
Nothing to install and nothing to print. It works with three players and gets better with eight, and it is one of the loudest, fastest free party games to hand a group that has run out of things to do.
